During one of my recruiting events, I interviewed a gentleman who recently retired from The World Bank. Being interested in people anyhow, I wanted to learn more about what this gentleman did in his distinguished career. It turns out that he was one of the people who helped set up the economic systems in third world developing companies. What a great thing to spend a lifetime doing! I really admire that.
But now let me get to the sad part of this story. After a 30 year career, this gentleman found that his retirement could not fully support him and his wife. He was obviously intelligent, obviously a solid professional. He was obviously successful in what he did. Yet he found himself needing! He found himself in the “third world” of retired people…not enough resources to live adequately.
So he needed to go back to work. But guess what? He also found out that very, very few companies were interested in hiring a sixty-something professional.
This story begs the obvious question: “What about you?” When you are in retirement, will you have plenty or will you have to scrape by?
The reality is our agents can have increased incomes through out their careers, as well as building contract value—that’s cash!!—in their businesses. I encourage you to read a posted article called “The Salary Trap.” This distinguished gentleman found out late in life he was in one. And I look forward to talking with you about how being an agency owner with Farmers Insurance group can help you have a happy story for your retirement years.
